Voice

Repertoire

All songs performed in a Voice Division class can be classified as one of two repertoire, as described below:

  • Standard Repertoire (ST): Songs that are generally considered as Art Songs from Baroque, classical, semi-classical, and romantic periods. Other than songs from early Baroque operas, operatic arias are not appropriate in this repertoire. Pieces can be sung either in the Solo or Ensembles sections.
  • Musical Theatre Repertoire (MT): Concert versions of songs from operettas and musical theatre, and can be sung in either the Solo or Ensemble sections.

Solo Section

For classes VS.3-5 and VS.6-8, each performer will perform one or two songs. When performing two pieces, we recommend they be of contrasting styles or repertoire. For classes VS.9-10 and VS.11-12, each performer must perform one song from the standard repertoire and one from the Musical Theater repertoire.

All selections are to be performed from memory, and each performer must provide their own accompanist.

Ensemble Section

Each ensemble must have one person to a part, with two to four members, performing one or two songs. When performing two pieces, we recommend they be of contrasting styles or repertoire. For additional details on registering an ensemble, see the Registration section.
