Former Pafe Winners
Wenhao Sun from Sammamish and Laura Choi from Issaquah both winning violinists are now attending Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Wenhao plans to double major in string performance and applied science. Laura plans to major in violin performance and music education.
Debra Morris, H.S. vocal winner in 2004 from Bellevue is majoring in musical theater at Fordham University's Lincoln Center Campus and plans to work off-Broadway this year.
Pianist and string player Lisa Kim of Bellevue, a former PAFE placement winner, has been accepted tot he Cleveland Institute of Music.
Derek Zadinsky, double bass performer and past concerto play-off winner attends the Curtis Institute of Music. He recently appeared with he Evergreen Chamber Orchestra and with the Schubert String Octet. He continues to be mentored by Itzak Perlman and will again be involved with his summer music camp program in the midwest.
Baritone Gregory Carroll, form Mitchell Scholarship award winner recently won the Ladies Music Club Voice Auditions. He has also sung several local oratorio roles and has been a featured soloist at St. James Cathedral.
Sharon Buck, mezzo soprano, the first Helen Jensen Vocal Award winner in 2005 was featured as one of the quartet of singers in the Viva Mozart! with the Bellevue Chamber Chorus at the Meydenbauer Theater.
Rebecca Davis of Redmond and the 2006 concerto play-off winner as a pianist, performed with the Bellevue Philharmonic at their sold-out Debut Concert in early June. She also traveled to Taiwan this summer to perform a Lizst concerto with the Taiwan Symphony Orchestra. Also performing on the same program that evening were former PAFE scholarship winner Adam Waddell of Woodinville, and Marie Rossano of Redmond, both violinists. Marie has been a PAFE first place violin winner. PAFE congratulates them all!
Jake Hanegan, a 2006 cello first place winner in both solo and ensemble spent the summer at two music camps: one in upstate Indiana and then Aspen. He has also auditioned to perform with the Eastside Symphony.
Natasha Keeley, 2005 Wilkins Ballet Scholarship winner spent time in France this summer performing at the Palais de Congres. She's been an apprentice dancer with the ABT company in New York, and continues to dance with Ballet Bellevue.
Five former PAFE Opera voice winners are performing this fall with Lyric Opera Northwest and Bellevue Opera companies appearing with seasoned professionals.
Grace Shim of Bellevue, pianist and the 2006 Peter Morton and Boeing Scholarship award winner is on a four year full scholarship at Mt. Holyoke College in Massachusetts. She plans to use her PAFE award money with piano study at the Boston Conservatory as well. She served as the 2006 Youth Teen Services President for the City of Bellevue and was surprised and honored at a capacity reception at the Meydenbauer Theater as the Outstanding Service Teen for Bellevue with a plaque. Congratulations to Grace and her family!
Tina Jo Patricelli, former Advanced Ballet winner for PAFE, is currently performing with the Body Vox Dance Company, Portland, OR. She danced locally in late July at the Bellevue Meydenbauer Theater and is a former member for Ballet Bellevue.
Thomas Lin of Bellevue PAFE placement winner in both Piano Solo and Concerto in 2006 was accepted at five colleges for this fall and chose a scholarship to Harvard University. He plans to continue piano study there as well as aerospace engineering. He was a local National Merit Scholarship award winner this past June.
Megan Hilty of Bellevue, former high school PAFE Musical Theater winner is now performing with the nation road show company of Wicked (based on the witches from the Wizard of Oz) in the leading role of Glenda. Megan had that starring role on Broadway this year and is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University in musical theater.
Soprano Anya Matonovic of Bellevue, former high school vocal winner, is performing with the Santa Fe Opera Company for a second season. She placed 2nd in the 2005 Metropolitan Regional Auditions receiving over $6000 in vocal scholarship study awards for her continued voice study at UCLA.
