Cello-Bass

Solo Section

Each performer will play one or two selections. When playing two selections, we recommend they be of contrasting styles. Concerto movements and compositions written to be played with an orchestra may not be played as solos. All selections must be played from memory.

Unaccompanied solo sonatas may be played in the Solo Section. However, sonatas that include a piano plus a Cello or Bass may only be performed by an ensemble.

Concerto Section

To qualify for the Concerto Section, each performer must first register for a class in the Solo Section. Performers are expected to play from memory, one or two movements of a standard repertoire work within the time limit.

Ensemble Section

All string ensembles should register in the Violin/Viola Division. For details on registering an ensemble, see the Registration section.

Any class consisting of three or fewer performers will be combined with another class.

Note: Students should bring their own chair or stool if that is needed by them when they attend adjudication classes. Teachers should plan to attend the entire class.
